Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach me  if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Yes! While it is wonderful to create for the sake of creating, we can only have so many tables or surfboards around my shop. Instead of letting them collect dust, we prefer to meet clients, see their space, understand their vision, and then collaborate with them to create unique heirloom-quality pieces of art.

Form and function is the standard! We typically use a double coat of epoxy to seal the wood. This ensures that tables are protected from normal wear-and-tear, as well as water stains. Please note that excessively hot items (e.g., tea kettles) may damage the epoxy coating. If my clients prefer a natural look and feel, we can create a custom piece with a stained finish. Please note that these creations might age faster over time.

Each wood slab is different. Usually we can find single slabs up to 5m long, or even longer. We currently have a selection of 20,000 year old Swamp Kauri that are over 4 m long!

When a slab is selected and a size is determined, the entire slab is purchased and then cut down to size. This might affect total cost for a project and it is therefore advised to select a slab closest to the preferred dimensions.

However, river tables allow for wider dimensions. For instance, if the slab is only 1m wide, we can make a 2m wide table using epoxy.

Yes! we have created stunning outdoor tables that have a polyurethane coating. This is similar to the finish of outdoor decks. While polyurethane is effective against water damage and UV, it might age over time with exposure to the elements.

We customize each piece for the client. While dinner tables are commonly requested, we also make conference tables, restaurant tables, bar leaners, cafe counters, desks, coffee tables, end tables, vanities, kitchen island tops, surfboards, skateboards, and TV stands. we also make cutting boards, shelves, sushi trays, skateboards, surfboards, and wooden sculptures. We have a CNC and can make highly customizable pieces.

No, while the surfboards are shaped similar to high performance thruster surfboards, they are too heavy to surf. These should live on the wall.

It depends. The process usually entails meeting with clients, seeing their space, contacting local millers, and crafting the piece. A one month turn around, depending on availability, should be reasonable.

Absolutely! We can coordinate with a local freight-shipping company to send pieces within NZ or international. We can deliver for a fee if it's close enough. The cost is surprisingly lower than one would think. For all prospective projects, it is best to discuss dimensions and estimated shipping costs prior to beginning the project. The client is responsible for shipping costs and will receive a copy of the invoice for transparency.
