Other Slabs

Not sure how this works?

For new woodworkers or designers, buying a slab might be confusing.  When you determine the size of your project, you typically want to find a slab closest to the size of your project because you buy the entire slab, even if you don't use it all. Think of it like going to the farmer's market for produce; you buy the whole piece of fruit, not just half.

The prices of slabs can vary significantly, based on factors like size, volume, splits in the wood, and figure (grain patterns). Slabs are typically stacked high in piles. You can't easily see the full shape of the slab when it's in a stacked pile, but knowing the general size helps in selecting one. When slabs are milled (cut), they are considered a rough cut. The wood tends to look weathered, grey, and hard to see the figure. You don't exactly know what it looks like at first glance, but that's also the joy of woodworking; you discover the beauty hidden in the grain as you work it. The further you get into the craft, the better you can imagine the figure based on the size and features of the wood.

Once you pick a slab that fits your needs, we can help you cut it down to specification. We offer basic planing (flattening) and sanding services for a charge. If you aren't interested in any part of the creation process, you can let us know and we can consider it a commissioned project. We can help transport the slab for a charge.
